In fact, in my eyes, everyone is a winner once again in the magic of Siem Reap! But we have to give a special mention to Carrie Lam of Singapore who was gratified with the top prize given at the end of the workshop. A second prize went to Adli Ghazali of Malaysia and a third one to Lan Pham Ngoc of Vietnam.

An amazing last night show and party will eventually add a lasting impression to everybody and as was the case this year, many of our 2011 invitees will come again to visit.

I’m now in Cambodia, and just met up with the workshop coordinator Roland Neveu yesterday in Phnom Penh. Tomorrow, I’ll head back to Siem Reap, which is one of the areas badly affected by the recent flooding in the country. No worries — we’ll be dry by the time November comes around!

2011 APWS candidates selection

We have sent out invitations to 30 applicants to the Angkor Photo workshop out of the 240 applications. We have to wait for chosen applicants to respond before closing the 2011 selection in case some people cannot make it. Participants invited are from 12 Asian countries and there is a ratio gals/guys of 2 t0 3. We hope this new batch of young shooters will enjoy the workshop as much as those who have made it over the years… And for all the other who have applied, most have more chances to come in the future.

Applications for 2011 WS

We are looking at well over 200 applications for the 2011 workshop in Siem Reap.

We see some good work and it should not be too hard to choose 30 candidates for the November event. This year again, we’ll do our best to have participants from all over Asia (applications came from Armenia …to Japan). Keep in touch through this blog for more news.

Once more the FCCT is opening for it’s annual Photo Contest. It’s open to photographers covering stories in Asia. Go to the link below to get all relevant information. Submissions dealine is Sept. 23, 2011. It’s organised jointly with OnAsia. And 2 years ago I was member of the Jury… the Photo of the Year get a US$3,000 prize and there are more cash prizes along with air-tickets…

A big thank you to all those who have already submitted — it is absolutely wonderful to see how there is just so much talent in Asia. The selection process is going to be really tough!

In other news, this was published about a week ago, but just in case you missed it: the second APWS Spotlight on the Invisible Photographer Asia features Vivek Muthuramalingam’s work Leak. Vivek M was with us at the 2007 workshops – it has been been almost four years!
